table?<\/mark>: <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">A Quest for the Model: <em>Tableau vivant<\/em> or the Voice of Criticism?<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:16px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of the last millennium, the American art critic Donald Kuspit (1935), addressed the issue of the crisis of critical discourse by pointing out that the outcry \u2013 &#8220;Crisis!&#8221;, like the &#8220;crying wolf&#8221;, is &#8220;too typical to be heeded&#8221;. According to Kuspit&#8217;s hypotheses, insisting on the crisis would mean refusing to see the necessity of the critical task, admitting the impossibility to clearly understand the essential feat of both art and criticism, a process that inevitably leads to the clouding of the critical spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The easiest thing would probably be to confirm that art criticism is a dying discipline, though it seems that there is still one significant segment remaining where the means of art promotion or the alternative &#8220;critical&#8221; model of art in its &#8220;critical&#8221; forms fails to revoke the necessity or replace the essentiality of the presence and representation of the daily or of the periodical criticism. The absence of critical platforms, of professional magazines and dedicated publications, is once again a reason to discuss about the surrendering-as-abandonment or the surrounding-as-avoiding of the burning issues related to the survival of the critical discourse in its respective forms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, the discourse of this year&#8217;s <em>simposium<\/em> refers to the existing &#8216;critiques of criticism&#8217; in a wider theoretical and practical context, setting potential parallels for understanding the evolution and the persistence of the crisis in our country as well, by trying to pinpoint the specific reasons for its so-called &#8216;disappearence&#8217; while (still) existing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The aspects of performing [<em>tableau vivant<\/em>] or acting the voice of criticism in the common, for both criticism and art \u2013 social reality, will be imperative for the search for the model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The actualization of the conversational discourse will take place through the following topics: diving into, and responding to the crisis, the &#8220;seven-headed hydra&#8221; model, the inevitability and crisis in the culture, the autobiographical model and narcissism, the consolidation with the art market, the adjusting according to the aesthetic experiences, the longing for objectivity, the intellectual self-closure, the opportunistic and belated criticism, the model in the institutions, the de-administrating procedure, the model with no conclusion&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Against the processes of degradation and decomposition, the imperatives of this s<em>imposium<\/em> will focus on pondering the terms such as: function, didactic value, changeability and aspectuality, coordinates, system and structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taking into consideration the critic as an assessor <em>vs<\/em> the critic as a judge, criticism as a predecessor, the dialectic model, the recreation of the artwork and the relation to the social phenomena, is of crucial importance for the persistence and the validity of the criticism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Macedonian context testifies to dense and active historical and social stages that are a confirmation of the presence of critical voices, but the historicization of criticism and\/or the model of the criticizing of criticism, despite the existing examples, needs a more clearly perceptible and argumentatively sustained temporal distance in order to interpret and historicize the complete critical works realized through the dedicated or alternative spaces for writing criticism. What could confirm the persistence of criticism through all social and historical stages is: the wisdom of its will <em>vs<\/em> unpopularity, self-criticism, criticism as a didactic model and pedagogical tool, aspects of performativity and the necessity to take a stand, the positioning between the work and its appearance, interpretation as performance, the craft, the critical grid, the application of knowledge about knowledge, the positioning of the author&#8217;s voice, the architectonics of the medium&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The critical practices of the 18th and 19th century of
